See You at the Race!

Kootenai River Run returns July 23 By Jillian Chandler

See You at the Race!

Three. Two. One. Go! An annual summer tradition, the Kootenai River Run is back in action and scheduled for Saturday, July 23. The course, which features a 5k (3.1 miles) and 10k (6.2 miles), takes runners in and around the city of Bonners Ferry, with both courses starting and finishing at the Boundary County Fairgrounds.

New this year is the team category for the 5k, with winners determined by the combined times of the five team members.

Entry fees to participate are $25 with T-shirt ($30 Canadian), $10 without T-shirt ($12 Canadian). Be sure to register by July 10 if you want to ensure you receive a T-shirt. Entries will be accepted the morning of the race for an additional cost of $5 at the Boundary County Fairgrounds parking lot from 6:30 to 7:45am.

Net proceeds from the race go to a terrific cause: providing deserving local student runners with college scholarships (two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to two graduating seniors; one $700 "Excellence in the Community" from Shelman Realty scholarships will be awarded to a graduating senior); and helping to support the Bonners Ferry High School cross-country program. In addition, there will be trophies awarded to the overall male and female winners in each race, and ribbons will be given to the top three finishers in the following male and female groups: 0 to 11, 12 to 15, 16 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 and older.

For additional details about this year's Kootenai River Run, email jkcornman@gamil.com or visit KootenaiRiverRun.com (where you can also view a map of the course). You can also find them on Facebook for the most up-to-date information.

If you aren’t interested in running the race, you can still show up to cheer the runners on along the course. Every event is made better with community support and love!

See you at the race!
