The Bonners Ferry High School Cheer Team completed its first round of tryouts on June 23rd, and welcomes new freshmen Addy Heigel, Kylie Callahan, Gena Kelsey and Kynsie Hinrichs to the team, which includes sophomore Hailey Kelsey, junior Bella Sims, and seniors Kylie Underhill and Ember Allred.

Despite being busy conditioning for the upcoming season, this summer the team has put in lots of time fundraising and working to build their skills. They raised $918 in a recent car wash at Columbia State Bank in their first fundraiser, and are planning the annual Badger Coupon Cards fundraiser for August.

“The cards consist of coupons provided by local businesses in support of BFHS Athletics and with the card community members can save hundreds of dollars by using their card throughout the year,” says team coach Andria Hedrick. Community members can follow the BFHS Cheer Facebook page for updates on when the cards are ready.

Beyond fundraising, the team hosted their own summer camp at the Boundary County

Fairgrounds, where special guests like Robbie Fairchild and Amy Reeves from Iron Mike’s Gym volunteered their time. Cheer alumni attended the camp and helped with cheers, choreography, and stunting techniques, and BCSD Nurse Karen Moore discussed health and hygiene practices for the team.

“Camp was a wonderful experience and provided them an opportunity to practice in front of little future Badger Cheerleaders that played at the park,” remarks Hedrick. “On the final day, they performed their routines in front of family and friends for their first team performance.”

A second team tryout is planned for October to recruit cheerleaders for the 2020-2021 basketball season and cheerleading competition season. Follow the BFHS Cheer Facebook page at Facebook.com/BonnersFerryHighSchoolCheerTeam for dates and details.
